“The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.”

Benjamin Franklin

Surveys show that the public's trust in the nonprofit sector has been on a steady decline. At the same time, the number of charity donors has been on the decline and, in 2018, total giving fell by 1.7% in inflation-adjusted dollars.

This seminar will use real-world examples cited by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and pulled from the news headlines to illustrate seven deadly fundraising sins involving: conflicts of interest, gift restrictions, accountability, tainted money, donor privacy, compensation, and cooking the books.

Participants will learn what researchers say about the importance of building trust in the philanthropic process. Through group discussion, participants will learn ways to enhance donor trust. This program will highlight ethical issues, offer alternative courses of action, and introduce a decision-making model to help fundraisers build trust and raise more money.

While not previously presented, some of the subject matter will be covered in an upcoming AFP Advancing Philanthropy magazine article.

Please note: once you have registered, you will receive an emailed link to register via Zoom 1 day prior to the program
