“The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.”

Benjamin Franklin

The Chapter is organizing as many members as possible to engage with their federal representatives to participate in AFP Global Virtual Lobby Week April 26-30. Our counterparts from across the country will also participate to ensure our members of Congress are aware of policies that are key to fundraising success and to develop partnerships with our elected officials during this event. Our newly formed Government Relations and Legislative Affairs Committee is working on this event and more communications will be coming soon. If you would like to participate, please contact [email protected]  to register. We will need the name of your legislator who represents your organization in Congress.

AFP Global is organizing the initiative to:

Advance key legislation like the universal charitable deduction and the IRA Legacy Act that will increase charitable giving and help fundraisers perform their job more effectively;

Position AFP-GPC as a resource for members of Congress and their staff;

Develop relationships with our members of Congress;

Engage AFP-GPC members in the public policy process.

As we all know, the word “lobbying” carries a lot of baggage. But really, lobbying is simply meeting with elected officials to have your voice heard. That is why we think it’s time lobbying is put back into the hands of the people. Members of Congress hear from charities, associations, and other groups all the time—through phone calls, emails, meetings and other lobby days, and events. Let’s get out there and have our voices heard—please join us for AFP Virtual Lobby Week!
