“The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.”

Benjamin Franklin

Storytelling is a great tool for nonprofit organizations. We have amazing stories to share - stories of perseverance, fortitude, and generosity. These stories give us a voice to compete in a world that gets noisier everyday, where people are looking for ways to find meaning and connection.

Storytelling is especially important for effective fundraising. There is scientific research that confirms good storytelling is one of he most powerful ways to engage stakeholders and influence behavior. There will always be new trends and challenges in philanthropy - including changing demographics, blended gifts and blended responsibilities, increasing use of DAFs, metrics, and technology advances. Perhaps one of our biggest current challenges is to share stories.

But what makes a good story? What ingredients engage the audience and have an impact? There are some ingredients that are just essential. You just can't make a good sauce without tomatoes. With the right recipe, storytelling can be the secret sauce of your fundraising success. Lynn Malzone IerardiDirector of Gift Planning, UPenn, will facilitate this informative session.
