Message From AFP-GPC
The Association of Fundraising Professionals – Greater Philadelphia Chapter (AFP-GPC) exists to provide professional development and educational opportunities for those within the unique field of fundraising – whether you’re a frontline fundraiser, advancement services professional, development communications specialist, etc. – while also providing an extensive network of peers throughout our region — and connected to 27,000+ members worldwide of AFP.
In all things, AFP-GPC seeks to ensure that our members are supported. We recognize that the Black and Brown members of our fundraising community have faced and continue to face particularly difficult days. As part of our desire to do more than empathize, AFP-GPC has started ongoing programming to specifically explore issues of race, diversity, access, inclusion, and other necessary topics. You can find these resources on our website.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and success of our online/virtual programming, we continue to offer a combination of online/virtual and in-person programming and opportunities to connect – throughout the five counties, we serve – and plan to do so indefinitely. Check out our Events page to learn more.
In the coming months, the Board of Directors will be updating our chapter’s Strategic Plan, seeking to further build on the culture of our chapter to prepare each other for the fundraising challenges around the corner. Additionally, our numerous committees offer members the opportunity to cultivate leadership skills, connect with peers regularly, and give back to their profession by sharing their unique skills. We would love for you to join us in this mission. Please contact [email protected] to learn more about these opportunities to volunteer, serve, and engage.
The Committee on Directorship is now accepting nominations for Chapter Directors for 2027.
This year, we have updated our nomination process to reflect AFP's IDEA commitments, with clearer criteria, a standardized review process, and a new pathway for non-AFP members to serve as At-Large Directors.
THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO JOIN THE BOARD THIS YEAR
-
Standard Board Member: Open to active AFP members in good standing
Nominate yourself, a colleague, or ask to be nominated. We are looking for individuals with professional experience in fundraising or the nonprofit sector, meaningful AFP or sector engagement, and the capacity to commit to active board service.
Submit a one-page nomination letter and CV via the form or by email to [email protected].
-
At-Large Director: Open to non-AFP members (new this year)
We are reserving up to two seats for individuals outside AFP membership who bring expertise or community ties that strengthen our board in areas such as law, finance, technology, communications, IDEA practice, or community organizing.
At-Large Directors are non-voting unless they join AFP, serve a one-year term that is renewable once, and must be nominated by a current AFP-GPC Board member.
Board members: Submit a 300-word nomination statement and the nominee's bio or CV to [email protected].
ABOUT BOARD SERVICE
Directors shape AFP-GPC's strategic direction, governance, and programming. All directors sign a Letter of Commitment covering meeting attendance, committee service, participation in chapter fundraising, support for the BE the CAUSE Campaign and the M. Jane Williams Professional Development Fund, and attendance at signature events. Standard terms are one year, renewable annually.
All nominations are evaluated using a consistent rubric across four domains. The Committee also conducts a diversity audit of the full slate before finalizing nominations.
The deadline for nominations is September 15, 2026.
